Apple’s iPad and Google’s Android Honeycomb platform may be getting a good majority of the buzz in the tablet world but that hasn’t stopped competing manufacturers from doing what they can to secure their own share of the market. One such manufacturer that has just recently released their own tablet offering is none other than Research in Motion with the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Reviews have been mixed about this device as some have called it great while others have called it rough around the edges. In terms of hardware the PlayBook features a 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB of built-in storage, 5 megapixel rear facing camera with 1080p video capture, 3 megapixel camera also with 1080p video capture, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and even the ability to run Android applications. However, on the software end it’s running RIM’s brand new BlackBerry Tablet OS.
However, despite featuring some hefty specs the PlayBook is quite obviously by no means perfect. In fact, RIM has just issued a recall for a select number of BlackBerry PlayBook models due to some defective hardware. According to reports nearly 1,000 of these tablets made their way to Staples and will be replaced by the company free of charge. If you think you may have a defective model you’re in luck as our friends over at Engadget have posted a spread sheet which includes every single defective device’s serial number which you can check out here.
On another note, if you have a BlackBerry PlayBook, how have you been liking it?
